The Friar’s Music Museum is situated on what was once the second floor of Friar’s Tavern on Toronto’s fabled Yonge Street music strip. Curated by author and music journalist Nicholas Jennings and Grammy-winning producer and archivist Jan Haust, the museum was produced by the Downtown Yonge BIA and underwritten by Shoppers Drug Mart franchise owner Andrew Yeh. Spotlighting the Yonge Street club scene of the 1950s and ’60s, it is located on the very spot where Bob Dylan recruited Levon and the Hawks, later known as The Band, to help him electrify folk music. It is hoped that this will be the first of a series of Toronto micro-museums made possible through the expertise of curators and the support of enlightened donors.
